Bengaluru on Wednesday continued to grapple with flooding caused by days-long rainfall. Waterlogging has disrupted major areas, including usual suspects such as Bellandur, HSR Layout, Koramangala and Whitefield. The city has now been issued an orange alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).However, the worst of this weather onslaught was reserved for the now-urbanised lakebeds of Bengaluru, not least of all . The site, located in Nagawara on Outer Ring Road, experienced severe submergence on October 15 only for the situation to be piled on by a landslide-like wall collapse.According to news reports, a retaining wall crumbled near Gate No. 2 of the Manyata Embassy Business Park, which is spread over 300 acres. The collapse occurred close to a construction site where excavation was ongoing.Onlookers documenting the scenes shared videos online. Footage posted on the subreddit Bengaluru shows debris falling into the crater as water gushes through the walls.
by in"Why does my city look like a Dwayne Johnson apocalypse movie?," a user commented."Because contractors and civil engineers in Bangalore are thieves.," responded another.Nikhil Shivpuja, a local, described it as being less of a landslide and more of "water rushing into the hole dug up for construction.""[I] just hope the reinforcing structures are done properly so it doesn't have catastrophic consequences," he added. No injuries or fatalities have been reported, though the already-affected vehicular traffic in the area has now been restricted from entering Manyata Tech Park’s roads. The IMD forecasts two more days of rain, outside of what's already an anomaly by Bengaluru weather standards. The city posted 228% excess rainfall relative to its single-day average.Bengaluru Urban district G Jagadeesha announced the extension of school and college for October 16, with no end in sight for the downpour. The Karnataka government has also issued a work-from-home advisory to IT-BT and other private firms in Bengaluru.
