Chelsea may have just been dealt a blow to their hopes of signing Mike Maignan. The AC Milan goalkeeper was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge ahead of the Club World Cup, but a deal collapsed when the two clubs couldn't agree a fee.
Maignan, whose contract at the San Siro expire next year, featured 37 times in the Serie A last season, conceding 41 goals while recording 13 clean sheets. Despite his best efforts, the Rossoneri finished eighth and failed to qualify for either of UEFA's three club competitions.
The France international's impressive performances didn't go unnoticed, attracting interest from Chelsea. Last month, football.london understood that the Blues were willing to submit a £13m bid for Maignan, but the Italian giants wanted in excess of £20m.

Fortunately for Chelsea, Milan could be forced to reconsider the proposal. From January, foreign clubs will be eligible to open pre-contract talks with the goalkeeper over a free transfer at the end of the season.
If Maignan doesn't pen an extension, the Italian giants will be forced to make a difficult decision. Milan must consider whether they'd rather risk losing the Frenchman for free or cut their losses and cash in this summer.
In the meantime, while the Rossoneri sweat over his future, Maignan has been enjoying his summer holiday. The Chelsea target has been in Los Angeles with Manu Kone, who plays for AS Roma, and Bryan Mbeumo, who continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United.
On Thursday, the trio uploaded a video to their Instagram profiles. Maignan, Mbeumo and Kone posted a compilation of clips from their trip to the United States before posing in front of the Griffith Observatory in LA.

The collaboration has sparked a frenzy on social media, with users urging Maignan to follow Mbeumo to Old Trafford. According to our sister site, the Manchester Evening News, the 25-year-old forward wants to join United this summer.
However, the Red Devils have reportedly had each of their two bids rejected by Brentford. It's said that Ruben Amorim wants to wrap up a deal for Mbeumo 'as soon as possible' so the Cameroon international can report for the beginning of pre-season.
United will play their first friendly of the summer in a couple of weeks when they take on Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, on July 19. Then, the Red Devils will jet off to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series.

Amorim's side will face West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before returning to the United Kingdom. Before United host Arsenal on the opening day of the new season, they'll play on Fiorentina at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Chelsea only have two pre-season friendlies in the calendar. The Blues will lock horns with Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge on August 8 before facing AC Milan a few days later on August 10.
