Sabarkantha (Gujarat) [India], November 11 (ANI): The procurement of groundnut on support price under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) began in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Himmatnagar area of the Sabarkantha district on Monday.
Gujarat Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel and Minister Bachubhai Khabad were seen accompanying the Gujarat CM on the occasion.
The Gujarat CM also provided farmers with cheques after procurement of their crops.
Along with this, the purchase of groundnut, Soyabean, Urad Dal and Mung bean at support prices will start at more than 160 purchase centres across the state.
Based on the registration and cultivated area of various crops in the Sabarkantha district, seven procurement centres have been identified for groundnut, six for Soyabean, eight for rice and two for Mung Dal.
Speaking to ANI, Gujarat Agricultural Minister Raghavji Patel said, "From today, purchase of groundnut, Urad and Soyabean on support price is starting in Gujarat. This purchase is being done through more than 160 centres in the state. Due to this, farmers will get the price of support price and they will also get the economic benefits."
The Price Support Scheme (PSS) is being implemented by the Government of India in the state. Main crops of the state like Bajra, Jowar, Maize, Paddy, Cotton, Tur, Moong, Urad, Groundnut, Sesamum Wheat, Gram, Mustard, and Sugarcane etc. are covered under the scheme.
The Department of Agriculture and Cooperation implements the PSS for procurement of oil seeds, pulses and cotton, through NAFED which is the Central nodal agency, at the MSP declared by the government. NAFED undertakes procurement as and when prices fall below the MSP. Procurement under PSS is continued till prices stabilize at or above the MSP.
Moreover, the price policy aims to change a balanced and integrated price structure concerning the overall needs of the economy. (ANI)
