Insensitive tourist remarks after Pahalgam attack spark outrage online | cliQ Latest

Even as the country mourns the loss of 26 lives in a horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, a set of viral videos showing tourists casually downplaying the incident has stirred public outrage. The comments, perceived as shockingly insensitive, have drawn sharp criticism across social media platforms.

The attack took place in the scenic Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, claiming the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. Several others were injured in what is being considered the deadliest attack in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bombing. As the nation grapples with grief, videos of smiling tourists describing the incident as a “choti si baat” (small matter) have gone viral.

In one of the clips, a woman is seen saying, “We are having a great time in Kashmir, just a little trouble happened in Pahalgam,” while others in her group nod and smile. She goes on to say, “Everything is peaceful here… there’s nothing to worry about,” even referring to the attack as something that “chalta rehta hai” (keeps happening).

Backlash Over Casual Tone

These remarks have not gone down well with social media users. Outraged netizens slammed the tourists for their tone-deaf attitude. One user wrote, “Shame. It reflects on their upbringing,” while another said, “Shameless people.” Others questioned the humanity in downplaying a tragedy that claimed so many lives.

The videos, mostly circulated on X (formerly Twitter), show tourists urging others to visit Kashmir despite the tragedy. While promoting tourism, many felt the tourists failed to acknowledge the gravity of the attack or show empathy toward the victims and their families.

Political Fallout and Security Concerns

In the aftermath of the attack, the Indian government held Pakistan responsible for supporting terror networks operating in the region. Diplomatic ties were further strained with India suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and tightening border security.

The Pahalgam attack has reignited fears over the safety of civilians and tourists in Kashmir. Despite recent development efforts and attempts to revive tourism, incidents like these underscore the region’s volatile security situation. The reactions from a section of tourists, seen as trivializing a national tragedy, have only deepened the hurt and outrage among many Indians.
