Breaking: BCCI suspends IPL 2025 until further notice

Send Push

The BCCI has suspended IPL 2025 until further notice amid rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, bringing a sudden halt to the ongoing season.

In an official statement released on Friday, a BCCI official confirmed that the tournament cannot continue under the current circumstances.

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match was called off in Dharamsala due to a power outage and nearby military unrest. After the match was called off, the BCCI arranged a special train from Una to Delhi to safely transport match officials out of the region due to the escalating tensions and security concerns. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had earlier stated that the board was “closely monitoring the situation.”

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal had also indicated that the board was in constant touch with the central government and that any major decision would be made in coordination with national security advisors.

Several overseas players were reportedly in touch with their respective boards after cross-border tensions escalated on May 8.

IPL 2025 has completed 58 matches to date, including the abandoned game in Dharamsala. With 12 group-stage games still to play, the playoffs were originally set to take place in Hyderabad and Kolkata later this month.

PSL 2025 also moved to UAE

Pakistan Cricket Board also announced that the remaining matches of PSL 2025 would be due to the same regional instability. The PCB confirmed that the tournament will resume in the UAE under heightened security and logistical coordination.

Both boards have maintained that the safety of players and fans takes precedence over the schedule. However, there is no official announcement regarding the new schedule for the PSL 2025.

While the PSL is set to resume in the UAE, the delay is likely to affect Pakistan’s international commitments. Bangladesh were scheduled to arrive just three days after the original PSL final date of May 18, with a five-match T20I series slated to begin on May 25 in Faisalabad. However, the PCB told ESPNcricinfo that no final decision has been made yet regarding the series.
