In a special ceremony held at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai, legendary Indian batter inaugurated a recently made boardroom named after him, "SRT 100," in his honour.

The ceremony, held in the presence of fellow legend Sunil Gavaskar and senior BCCI officials, including president Roger Binny, vice-president Rajeev Shukla, celebrated Tendulkar’s contribution to Indian cricket. The event also saw the BCCI honour Gavaskar by dedicating a room named '10000 Gavaskar'. Sachin thanked the officials for honouring him with this.

"The SRT 100 board room is dedicated to Tendulkar’s 100 international centuries and his impact on the game. In a video shared by the BCCI, Tendulkar shared that it was an emotional moment for him and thanked the officials for honouring him with it. Thank you very much for this very warm gesture. And, nice to be here in the office. I'm sure it's not going to be my last visit. I'll continue coming here and admiring these trophies. There will be many more trophies, hopefully, in the time to come. And that would be a team effort. So, all the very best to you, and thank you once again for that. Thank you," he said.

The planning happens in rooms like these: Tendulkar

During the ceremony, Sachin Tendulkar spoke about his cricketing career and shared a story after the 2007 World Cup. He revealed he considered retirement after the early exit, but a conversation with his brother got him back on track to serve the nation.

"What makes it even more special is these priceless trophies. It's a reflection of what the official bearers, BCCI bearers and the players have been able to plan and execute that plan, helping the country to achieve this. So these are priceless moments. These are moments where the whole country comes together and celebrate," the former India legend continued.

"So in 2007, when we got back from the West Indies, a bit of disappointment. A number of thoughts came in my head, whether I should continue or it's time for me to move outside. And I remember having a conversation with my brother. My brother said, "In 2011, the World Cup will be played in India and the finals will be at Mumbai - Wankhede Stadium. With this trophy, can you visualize yourself taking a victory lap?" he added further.

The veteran also signed an old photograph from his 1989 debut match against Pakistan and was presented with a bouquet. He further spoke about the 1983 World Cup trophy, which he was seeing for the first time in person, and how it inspired him to take up the sport.

"And that's where the journey began again. For those four years, there was just one goal, which was this trophy. From possibly the toughest moment in my life, 2007 to 2011, the best cricketing moment of my life. It was a remarkable journey.  My career also started because of this trophy, Prudential Cup and one of the players, Roger is here," the master blaster said.

"I grew up watching them. From there to 2011, to be able to achieve whatever we have as a team, I think the officials also need to put their heads together, plan certain things. And the planning happens in rooms like these," Tendulkar concluded.

Notably, the SRT 100 board room is the latest in a series of tributes to Tendulkar at his home ground, the Wankhede Stadium, where a life-size statue already honours his career. The statue was unveiled during the 2023 ODI World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka. He also has a stand named after him at the same venue.
