MI vs DC, Mumbai Weather: Rain gods may play spoilsport in Wankhede and tighten playoffs qualification scenario

Send Push
As Mumbai city was lashed with heavy rainfall last night and the forecast suggests the same will continue even today, leaving the Indian Premier League match tonight between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals may be in a fix.

Both teams were forced an early conclusion to the training session at the Wankhede Stadium last night due to steady rainfall. Moreover, as per ESPN, DC co-owner Parth Jindal has asked the IPL to shift this crucial match to another city.

With three teams already qualifying for the playoffs, MI and DC are both eyeing for the final spot, making this encounter a knockout game. Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai team is currently standing at the fourth position on the IPL points table, while Axar Patel's Delhi is on the fifth.

Mumbai weather forecast today ahead of Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals
Mumbai is set to face a heavy thunderstorm on Wednesday morning, with an 80% chance of rain throughout the day. Last night, the India Meteorological Department issued a forecast and warning for "thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, heavy rainfall and gutsy winds (50-60) at isolated places" for Mumbai and some adjoining areas.

However, as for today, the weather is expected to clear up by the evening, around match time (7–11 PM), with only a 7% likelihood of rain during those hours. While conditions will remain cloudy, temperatures are anticipated to stay around 29°C, accompanied by high humidity levels of approximately 75%, which may create uncomfortable conditions for players.

Despite the morning rain, the evening forecast looks promising, suggesting that the game is likely to proceed without significant weather interruptions.

MI vs DC: What happens to qualifications if tonight's game is abandoned?
The qualification scenarios are quite simple.

Tonight, if MI wins, they secure a playoff spot.

If DC wins, neither team qualifies immediately, and the battle continues into their last league games. Both teams have one game left after today's clash and they face Punjab Kings (PBKS) next.

But if rain washes out the game in Wankhede and the points are shared, MI will move to 15 points and DC to 14, keeping things tight, leaving MI with an upper hand.
