In a shocking incident, a newborn girl was found buried alive, a foot deep under a bridge. As per a TOI report, the 10-day girl was rescued when a shepherd heard her cries under the Baghul river bridge in Shahjahanpur in UP. The shepherd, Dubloo, was grazing his goats when he heard a faint cry emerging from a mound of soil. When he went near the mound, he saw a small hand sticking out of the soil, which was bleeding and covered with ants, while rest of the body was buried under the soil. He couldn't believe what he saw and immediately raised an alarm to inform the villagers about the girl and then informed the police, Dubloo told TOI.
Rakesh Kumar, a resident of the village, said that a police team carefully dug out the girl’s body, which was completely covered in mud and was in a very weak state. The infant was first given emergency treatment at a local community health centre and then was referred to a Government Medical College, as told to TOI.
The principal of the medical college, Rajesh Kumar told TOI that the girl is estimated to be 10-15 days old. The infant was brought in a fragile state and she continues to stay in a critical condition in the college’s neonatal intensive care unit. Kumar said that the girl's hand was bleeding due to severe ant bites.
The police told TOI that the girl was buried about a foot deep and some space was deliberately left for her to breathe. CCTV footage from cameras along the Baghul river road is being checked to find the person responsible for abandoning the baby.
The SHO of Jaitpur police station Gaurav Tyagi said that they were working to identify the persons involved in attempting to bury the girl alive.
