Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday came down heavily on his detractors, saying that some "perverted ideologues" and "twisted minds" have become restive with the growing strength of India and its flourishing sense of unity.
"These people both from inside and outside India are trying to spread anarchy and restlessness within India," Modi said, speaking at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat. They are also trying to hurt the economic welfare of the country, he said.
"These forces want a wrong message to go out to investors worldwide and a negative perception of India be created," Modi said adding that these people were busy targeting even the armed forces of India and running misinformation campaigns.
"They are trying to divide the society in the names of caste and creed. All their efforts have only one target, to weaken the Indian society and India's unity," he said.
He added that these people will never want India to develop.
For five long decades this dirty despicable politics was played at the cost of weakening the country," Modi said. "These people are trying to break India in the name of the Constitution," he said, adding: "We have to identify the coalition of these ' urban Naxals'."
As Naxalism that had flourished in the forests which misled the tribal youth with bombs and bullets went down, the new model of 'urban Naxals' came up, Modi said, adding that these forces must be identified and dealt with.
"There was a time when we with a lot of pride used to sing songs of national unity," Modi said, adding that today if someone sings those songs, the cabal of urban Naxals will start abusing him or her. "Today if someone says that we are safe when we are one, then that would be read differently.
Those who want to break the country and divide the society are troubled with the unity of the country, he added. In the last 10 years, the government has constantly strengthened the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat in its policies and decisions, Modi said.
Talking about initiatives like "One Nation, One Identity" through Aadhaar, and additional efforts to establish "One Nation" models like GST and the National Ration Card, Modi said as part of the government's efforts for unity, it is now working on One Nation, One Election, One Nation, One Civil Code, "that is, Secular Civil Code".
Recalling the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir as a milestone, Modi said, "For the first time, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir took oath under the Indian Constitution."
He spoke about how the Bodo Agreement has ended 50 years of conflict in Assam, and the Bru-Reang Agreement allowed thousands of displaced individuals to return home.
