What should sugar patients eat instead of sweets?
According to dieticians, diabetes patients should consume dry fruits like almonds, walnuts, and pistachios instead of sweets on festivals. These are rich in fiber, healthy fat, and protein. You can make healthy snacks by roasting them or lightly mixing them with jaggery or dates. Consume them in limited quantities, as they also contain high calories. Also, choose dry fruits without salt and without frying.
Diabetes patients can consume sweets made from natural sweet options like jaggery, dates, or stevia. Nowadays, many such sweets are available in the market that are sugar free. You can make oats-dates laddu, stevia kheer or fruit chaat at home. Eat them in controlled quantities and monitor your blood sugar level.
Fruits contain natural sugar and also provide fiber, vitamins, and minerals to the body. Fruits like apples, guavas, pears, and papayas can be good options for diabetic patients. On the day of the festival, you can make a healthy dessert by mixing them with fruit salad or curd. Keep in mind that high-sugar fruits like banana, mango, and grapes should be eaten in limited quantities.
