China Reaffirms Support For Pakistan Amid Ceasefire Violation With India; Calls It An 'All-Weather Ally'

Hours after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire, reports emerged of its violation by Pakistan, with several drone sightings reported in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian government noted repeated breaches of the understanding reached earlier in the day between the Directors General of Military Operations of both the countries.

In a separate development, China reaffirmed its support for Pakistan during a phone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

China Praises Pakistan’s “Restraint” After Border Breach

According to a statement released by Pakistan's Foreign Office, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar that China “stands firmly” with Islamabad in defending its “sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence.” The conversation came shortly after Pakistan reportedly breached the ceasefire agreement.

The statement noted that Dar briefed Wang on the regional security situation, including recent cross-border exchanges and the aftermath of a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Quoting the Chinese minister, the Press Trust of India reported that Wang “acknowledged Pakistan’s restraint and appreciated its responsible approach under challenging circumstances.”

China also reiterated its commitment to its long-standing relationship with Pakistan, describing the partnership as an “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative” one and referring to Pakistan as an “iron-clad friend.”

Dar also held a separate conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, where he provided updates on regional developments and Pakistan’s perspective on the situation.

India Responds to Ceasefire Violations, Issues Stern Warning

India responded strongly to the reported violations. In a statement issued late Saturday (May 10), the Indian government said, “For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan.”

It continued, “The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations, and we take very, very serious note of these violations.”

Officials in Jammu and Kashmir, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, took to X (formerly Twitter) to report sightings of drones near the border. The Indian armed forces have been instructed to maintain a high level of vigilance and respond firmly to any further violations along both the International Border and the Line of Control.
