Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Work has officially begun on Indore Metro’s underground track, with the initial phase taking place in the airport area.
The Metro administration is prioritising the connection between Gandhi Nagar Station and Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, marking it as a critical step in expanding Metro connectivity in the city.
As part of this plan, Metro services are expected to begin from Gandhi Nagar to Radisson by January 2026. In preparation, excavation work has started near the airport and a drone survey has already been conducted with administrative approval.

After launching commercial operations on the Priority Corridor, the Metro Corporation has accelerated work on the 11-km elevated corridor from Super Corridor Station No 3 to Robot Square.
The elevated corridor between Gandhi Nagar and Robot Square is expected to be completed within six months. However, full passenger potential can only be realised once the link between Gandhi Nagar and the airport is established making airport connectivity a top priority for the Metro project.
Large-scale excavation machinery has arrived at the site and digging work is currently underway. The Metro station will extend from the airport toward Bijasan Tekri, forming Indore’s first integrated underground-elevated metro system.
The Metro line will gradually rise from the underground section near the airport. Pillars at varying heights have already been constructed along Airport Road and the station is being designed similar to Delhi Metro stations.
Escalators will connect the airport terminal directly with the Metro station to reduce walking distance, especially for travellers with luggage.
