Mumbai: The Mumbai Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded a total compensation of over Rs 1.28 crore in three separate claims related to a fatal 2019 road accident near Valsad, which claimed the lives of two Mulund residents and left another injured.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of June 10, 2019, around 3:30 am, when a car carrying the victims was hit by a rashly and negligently driven vehicle on the Valsad-Vapi road near Pardi, opposite Vallabh Ashram School.
All the victims were residents of Mulund and were travelling together in a motor car owned by Bhanuben R. Thakkar. The car was being driven at high speed and in a reckless manner, ultimately leading to a severe collision that killed two passengers and injured another.
In the first case, the Tribunal granted a compensation of Rs 98,80,407 to the family of Mehul Thakkar, who succumbed to his injuries in the accident. In the second case, Harshita Davda’s family was awarded Rs 26,36,066 following her death in the same crash.
A third compensation of Rs 3,24,664 was granted to Harshita’s husband, who survived the crash but suffered multiple injuries. He had filed a separate claim with the Tribunal.
“All this further goes to prove that the driver of the offending vehicle was driving it rashly, negligently and in a high speed which was beyond his control, hence, solely responsible for the said accident, resulting death of two persons i.e. Mehul and Harshida, who were travelling in the said offending Car,” the tribunal maintained.
