The global tech industry is witnessing another year of widespread job cuts in 2025, with over 100,000 layoffs reported across leading company. Attributed to the AI boom, Microsoft has initiated a layoff of over 90,000 employees. Other major players like Intel, Google, Infosys, and IBM have all trimmed their workforce recently, as part of cost restructuring, operational realignments, and increasing focus on AI-driven efficiencies.

Microsoft Announces Second Round of Layoffs

Microsoft has initiated its second major round of job cuts this year, impacting approximately 9,100 employees. This follows an earlier layoff of around 6,000 employees in May. The latest round primarily affects the Xbox and gaming divisions, as well as sales and support functions. The company said the move represents less than 4 percent of its global workforce and is aimed at streamlining operations amid shifting business priorities.

Intel to Cut Up to 20 Percent of Factory Workforce

Chipmaker Intel has confirmed plans to reduce its factory workforce by 15–20 percent as part of ongoing cost-cutting measures. According to reported internal communication from Naga Chandrasekaran, Intel’s Vice President of Manufacturing, the job cuts are part of efforts to improve affordability and streamline manufacturing operations. The majority of these reductions are expected to be completed in July 2025.

Infosys Lays Off Entry-Level Employees After Assessments

Indian IT services company Infosys has let go of 240 entry-level employees who did not clear internal performance assessments. This is the second round of layoffs in recent months; in February, the company had terminated over 300 freshers for similar reasons. Those impacted were primarily hired as System Engineers and Digital Specialist Engineers.

Google Scales Down Google TV Division

In April, Google reduced the workforce of its Google TV division by roughly 25 percent. The move followed a reported 10 percent cut in the team’s overall budget. Although the company has not disclosed the exact number of roles affected, the team reportedly consisted of about 300 employees, indicating that around 75 positions were eliminated.
