What happens during the 6 days of Durga Puja?
Importance of Shashthi Tithi - The ritualistic beginning of Durga Puja begins on Shashthi Tithi and this day is called Mahalaya. It is believed that on the day of Mahalaya, there was a fierce war between the gods and demons in which many gods and sages died. All the gods and sages who died in this war are offered tarpan on Mahalaya. On Shashthi Tithi, there is a ritual of Bilva Nimantran Puja, Kalpaarambh, Akal Bodhan, Invitation and Adhivas.
Mother's arrival at her maternal home - On Durga Puja, Goddess Durga comes to her maternal home along with her children, Ganesh, Kartik, Lakshmi and Saraswati. In this joy, people of Bengali community celebrate with great pomp for six days and eat many types of delicacies.
Sindoor Khela - Sindoor Khela is the last day of Durga Puja. On this day Goddess Durga is bid farewell and invited to come again next year.
