As the temperature rises and the sun blazes overhead, your skin needs extra love and care. From breakouts and rashes to dryness and dullness, summer brings with it a range of skin troubles. But the good news? With the right tips—and some dermatologist-approved wisdom—you can keep your skin healthy, hydrated, and glowing all season long.
What Happens to Your Skin in Summer?- Sweating increases, making the skin oily and clogging pores
- Humidity and heat can trigger breakouts, especially in oily skin types
- Sun exposure causes tanning, pigmentation, and premature aging
- Dehydration can make skin dry, tight, and lifeless
Dr. Vijay Singhal, Senior Consultant Dermatologist at Shri Balaji Action Medical Institute, Delhi, shares:
“In summer, intense sun, sweat, and dust wreak havoc on skin health. Oily skin types are more prone to acne due to excess sebum and clogged pores, while even dry skin can get irritated if not properly hydrated.”
Here’s what he recommends:
1. Cleanse the Right Way- Use a mild, non-drying face wash twice a day.
- If you have oily skin, go for a gel-based cleanser.
- For dry skin, opt for a cream-based cleanser to retain moisture.
- Gel or water-based moisturizers work best for oily skin.
- Creamy, hydrating formulas are ideal for dry skin.
- Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), even indoors.
- Reapply every 2-3 hours when outdoors.
- Don’t forget areas like ears, neck, and hands.
- Drink plenty of water to beat dehydration.
- Include water-rich foods like cucumber, watermelon, and coconut water in your diet.
- Foods rich in Omega-3, Vitamin C, E, and antioxidants help fight skin damage.
- Avoid stepping out in harsh sunlight, especially between 12 PM – 3 PM.
- Use a hat, scarf, sunglasses, or umbrella for added protection from UV rays.
If you're facing continuous itching, irritation, or redness, don’t wait—consult a dermatologist to get targeted treatment.
Bottom Line:
Summer doesn’t have to mean bad skin days. With a little extra care and the right products tailored to your skin type, you can keep your glow intact all season. Let your skin breathe, stay hydrated, and don’t skip the sunscreen.
