LA Dodgers parade chaos sparks looting and fires on the streets after World Series win

Parts of Los Angeles descended into chaos after won the World Series with police urging people to leave areas amid reports of looting and fires being set.

The LA Dodgers won the second World Series in five years following a thrilling win over the Yankees. Following the win fans celebrated in the streets, setting off fireworks in Los Angeles.

But the celebrations soon turned to chaos in some parts of the city, with police donning riot gear and swooping in to contain signs of unrest. Police said objects had been hurled at officers and photos were soon shared online that appeared to show instances of looting and fires being set.

A video shared on X/Twitter showed a bus on fire in the street as Dodgers fans looking on and recorded the burning vehicle. Police set closed off the street, preventing anyone from getting close.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said in an X/ post: "Various projectiles are being thrown at LAPD Officers in the area of Olympic & Grand. Extra resources are responding to that area to assist. If you are on the street, at or adjacent to that intersection, leave the area immediately & follow officers orders."

Another LAPD tweet added: "We have reports of looting at several stores in the area of 8th and Broadway. Please stay out of the area."

A "hostile" crowd was reported to have moved onto 9th and Grand in Downtown LA. Police added dispersal order had been issued for an unlawful assembly and that people had been seen throwing fireworks and projectiles at officers.

LA Mayor Karen Bass congratulated the Dodgers but added violence would not be tolerated. In a post following the win, she said: "As we celebrate this achievement tonight and in the coming days, violence will not be tolerated. LAPD is currently on tactical alert and has activated a strategic plan to protect communities and businesses, which includes proactive deployment and a coordinated strategy with regional partners to ensure that all Angelenos are able to celebrate safely."

The has contacted the LAPD for comment.

But other fans were seen gathering in celebration of the Dodgers' win with several being seen waving their team's flags and cheering. Vice President and Democrat candidate for President Kamala Harris took to social media to celebrate the win.

Ms Harris, who was born in California, said: "Congratulations to the 2024 World Series champions, the Los Angeles @Dodgers. Your dominant play this season brought joy to millions of fans around the - including @SecondGentleman."
