Mississippi shooting: Three dead and eight injured at football game as gunman on the run

Several are dead and more injured after a shooting during celebrations after an American football game in Mississippi.

Local sheriffs in Holmes County, Mississippi, said a number of people were celebrating after the Holmes County Consolidated School's homecoming celebration, when a disagreement broke out. Moments later, as number of gun shots were fired into the crowd.

Three people were killed and another eight injured in the tragedy. Investigations are ongoing.

Holmes County Sheriff Willie March told the Clarion Ledger deputies were first called at 12:30am. He told the publication: "The football team had won the homecoming game and people wanted to go out and celebrate the win, but others didn’t have the same intention."

He added disagreements "often" ended with the use of guns in the area. The three victims were identified as March identified the three victims as Shundra Chestnut and John Jenkins, both 19, and 25-year-old Martel Gibson. The conditions of other youngsters injured is currently unknown.
