Taunted as 'Thief', Youth Plots Murder of Businessman in Jharkhand with Sword and Iron Rod

Send Push

A shocking and brutal murder in Jharkhand's Gumla district has sent shockwaves across the region. Businessman Vinod Agarwal was publicly hacked to death with a sword and iron rod in Loyola Nagar on Sisai Road. The daylight attack was not a random act of violence—it was a pre-planned act of revenge led by a young man who felt insulted for years.

Accused Arrested Within 24 Hours

Police have arrested three accused in connection with the murder:

  • Anchal Byum Tirkey alias Chikku, a resident of Loyola Nagar

  • Julliman Minj alias Julie

  • Sameer Toppo, both residents of Doomar Toli

Weapons used in the attack—a sword, iron rods, and a motorcycle—were also recovered. The accused have been sent to jail after confessing to the crime.

SP Reveals the Chilling Sequence

Gumla SP Hashish Bin Jama revealed that initial reports claimed Vinod Agarwal had died in a road accident. But suspicious circumstances led police to examine CCTV footage near the crime scene. The footage uncovered the truth: a targeted and gruesome murder.

CCTV showed the accused carrying out a planned recce, followed by Chikku attacking Vinod from behind with a sword and iron rod, hitting him repeatedly until he died on the spot.

Motive: Insult and a Grudge from the Past

The investigation uncovered that the motive was a long-standing grudge. Two years ago, Chikku’s elder brother was accused of theft at Vinod Agarwal's residence. Since then, Vinod allegedly mocked Chikku and his family as "thieves" in public. This constant humiliation reportedly drove Chikku to plot revenge.

According to police, Chikku told investigators that Vinod’s repeated insults had become unbearable. To avenge his family’s dishonor, he involved his friends and planned the murder meticulously.

Drunk Before the Attack

Before executing the murder, Chikku and his friends consumed alcohol and marijuana. They then tracked the businessman as he returned from buying bread near his home and attacked him in public.

Accused Have Criminal Histories

All three accused have criminal records, including cases under the Arms Act, robbery, attempt to murder, and molestation. The Gumla Police have now confirmed that all of them have been sent to jail.

This case is a grim reminder of how long-standing grudges and unchecked rage can escalate into fatal violence. The murder of Vinod Agarwal is being seen not just as a crime of passion, but a calculated act of revenge rooted in past humiliation.
