Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has announced a legislative assembly session in Srinagar on November 4. This session will focus on electing the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly for the Union Territory.

The session is set to begin at 10:30 AM, following the provisions outlined in Rule 9(1) of the Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

On October 18, Manoj Sinha appointed Mubarak Gul, a senior leader from the National Conference and a recent winner from the Eidgah constituency, as the pro-tem Speaker. In his letter, Sinha stated, "The Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor, in pursuance to Section 24 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, appointed Mubarak Gul, Member Legislative Assembly, as Speaker Protem. He will oversee the administration of the oath to all Members of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly."

The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for October 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Srinagar. The assembly's Secretariat has requested all members to attend this important event.

The recent assembly elections, which took place after a decade-long hiatus, saw the NC-Congress alliance emerge victorious. The National Conference secured 42 seats, while the Congress party won six. Following the victory of the INDIA bloc, Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah previously held the Chief Minister's position from 2009 to 2014.
