Hurun India on Thursday released its list of top philanthropists for 2023, with Shiv Nadar and his family continuing to lead the ranks, contributing a remarkable Rs.2,153 crore. This significant donation positions Nadar firmly in the top spot, followed by Mukesh Ambani and his family, who donated Rs.407 crore. The top 10 philanthropists together contributed Rs.4,625 crore in FY24, making up nearly 53% of the total charitable contributions listed. The list also highlights the growing influence of newcomers, with Krishna Chivukula and Susmita & Subroto Bagchi entering the top 10, securing the 7th and 9th positions, respectively. Six out of the ten major donors focused on educational causes, emphasizing the critical role of improving access to education across India. The Bajaj family showed impressive growth, climbing three places to secure the third spot with a Rs.352 crore donation, marking a 33% increase from the previous year. Gautam Adani and his family secured the fifth position with a Rs.330 crore donation, reflecting a 16% rise. The Adani Foundation directs most of their contributions toward education in remote villages, along with skill development and community health programs.
