BBC Line of Duty set for series 7 and major stars 'reunite for talks'

The stars of are reportedly in talks with show creator Jed Mercurio to revive the BBC series, with it potentially making a return to screens as early as 2026.

The popular police drama first aired in 2012 and quickly became a phenomenon with fans. The series' sixth-season finale, which aired in May 2021, attracted an impressive 15.24 million viewers, according to reports at the time.

Although the stars of the show, including Vicky McClure, Martin Compston, and Adrian Dunbar, have had busy schedules, they have reportedly met with show creator Jed to discuss reviving the series.

Since the show concluded, Vicky has led several projects, such as Trigger Point and Without Sin, while Martin has appeared in Vigil and Mayflies. Adrian has also been active, featuring in the popular ITV drama Ridley.

A source told The Sun: "Jed is close with Vicky, Martin and Adrian and they often meet for dinner - this time it was different.

"A topic of conversation was how they could align their schedules in 2025 to ensure Line of Duty 7 happens. The ambition is filming could start next year, with it on screens by early 2026."

It comes after Vicky, Adrian, and Martin drove fans wild after they were spotted on a chaotic night out in London. They quickly amused fans with an Instagram video showing off their antics.

In the hilarious clip, posted on Vicky and Martin's Instagram account, the actor cheekily teased: "We're back!"

One person said in the comments section: "Ahhh the best trio! Hope to see you all back on our screens as AC-12 one day!"

A second person wrote: "This better be a video of you lot p***ing about after a long day of shooting season 7..."

A third fan also typed: "Absolutely love you 3 and your wonderful friendship long may it continue #ac12," as a fourth said: "Mother of God, when will you be back on our screens? would love it!"

The cast has consistently kept the door open for a possible return of Line of Duty in the past.

Previously, McClure said: "I speak to the lads all the time and we'd love to, we're all game." Meanwhile, Martin added: "I'm so chuffed that people want it back. But who knows? I'd love to work with the guys again.

Dunbar said: "I think generally there's a willingness amongst everybody to do something but I think we're just going to have to wait a little bit longer."
