Could this finally be the end of the BBC? In the wake of the entirely justified resignations of BBC director-general Tim Davie and CEO of News Deborah Turness, it's been enjoyable to watch some Beeb stalwarts trying to blame everyone else for how Auntie has managed to get itself into such a mess.
First up was, natch, President Donald Trump, blamed for threatening the BBC with legal action, thus prompting Tim 'n' Debs to take a bullet on Aunty's behalf, according to insiders desperate to shore up an institution that has become rotten to the core. What utter rubbish. It was Panorama that essentially lied about what The Donald had said; he had every right to be incandescent and he has every right to sue.
Next up, it was the wicked Tories, natch, especially Boris, natch, who'd made political appointments to destroy the Beeb from within, specifically putting Robbie Gibb, once Theresa May's communications director, on the Board. Actually it tells you everything you need to know about the BBC mentality that they automatically took the appointment of a Tory as a grave threat to their very existence.
But what has really come across in the past week is the utter lack of understanding within the Corporation that it is their entire modus operandi that has gone so very wrong. It reflects a mentality that is simply not shared by most of the country, whether it be their stance on trans issues or the terrible bias they have towards Israel and by extension the Jewish community as a whole.
Various BBC types keep insisting it is the "most respected news organisation in the country" - ask the Jewish community what they think about that. Or most of the rest of us, come to that.
In increasingly desperate tones, BBC types are now insisting that they are the last defence against the likes of Nigel Farage, without understanding that they are one of the main reasons for the rise of Nigel Farage.
Nor is it their job to act as some sort of resistance movement. They have trashed their own reputation and by extension the country they are supposed to represent. It's not right wing forces that have done for the Beeb: they have managed it all on their own.
