Conor McGregor found himself in the midst of chaos over the weekend when an event was called off due to severe weather conditions. The Dublin-born fighter had travelled to Montenegro for the BKFC Fight Night. The event commenced late after the start time was delayed due to torrential rain in Budva.
However, a storm erupted once the action began, causing scaffolding to collapse around spectators who were compelled to flee towards the exit. McGregor was embroiled in the pandemonium, which he referred to as the "maddest thing ever". In a now-deleted Instagram video, he said: "Budva brought the thunder, baby. That was the maddest thing ever. Oh my God.
"I'm sitting there, the thing [venue] starts rumbling and shaking, and I wasn't waiting... I know this ain't safe. I am in this ring, Montenegro local, big KO finish.
"We're in the ring about to celebrate, and the storm just erupted out of nowhere. Mother nature... I got out of there; the heavens were roaring."
BKFC issued a statement on the cancellation of the event: "Due to extreme inclement weather, BKFC Fight Night Budva from Budva, Montenegro will air via tape delay at a later, to-be-determined date on The BKFC App.
"BKFC will make a formal announcement when the event is available to our fans."
This incident occurred days after McGregor received a significant boost when UFC boss Dana White confirmed that the proposed White House card has been approved. The Dubliner is looking forward to fighting at the event next summer.
The event is scheduled for 4 July 2026, and will be a part of the US Independence Day celebrations marking the country's 250th anniversary.
White gave a significant update on the event last Thursday. "I had a fantastic day," he began.
"I'm just about to jet off from Washington, D. C. We had a meeting at the White House. It couldn't have gone better. This is going to be brilliant. The White House fight is on! The White House fight is on! I'll have more details on that in the next few weeks. But we got it sorted today."
