With colder weather on the way, there's one cleaning job you can't miss out on if you want to make sure your home is energy efficient. You should get this job done before you turn your fireplace on this winter.
Marla Mock, president of Molly Maid, has shared a crucial tip on a job which often goes forgotten. Marla says you should make sure your fireplace is clean and well maintained before the winter comes. She says: "Dust or clogged filters can reduce efficiency, raise energy bills, reduce air quality in your home, and possibly cause mechanical issues."
Cleaning your fireplace is important if you want it to last and remain a focal point in your room.
You may have noticed it doesn't seem to be throwing out as much heat as usual or doesn't seem to be functioning quite the same.
Roger Hunt, author of Old House Handbook, says: "Fireplaces need care and attention if they are to look good and work efficiently - whether simple cast iron or wildly extravagant marble creations."
If you have a traditional fireplace, you may find it harder to clean but it can be done, as long as you take extra care.
Safety is key and whether you use your fireplace often or not, you should make sure to rectify any issues quickly.
But this is not the only job you should do before the weather gets colder. You should also make sure to take care of your carpets and upholstery, reports The Spruce.
Lina DaSilva, founder of Toronto Shine Cleaning, says: "Getting rid of all the dust, pollen, and allergens that have built up over the summer is essential for better indoor air quality."
Deep cleaning your carpets is another job that easily gets forgotten but over winter you'll likely have your windows shut more meaning less fresh air is circulating around your home.
To make sure your home has good indoor air quality, cleaning your carpets could make a huge difference.
By completing these two small jobs, you'll notice a huge difference and your home will be clean and cosy for autumn.
