'Excellent' new Guy Ritchie series on Netflix leaves fans stunned

fans have just discovered a miniseries produced by Guy Ritchie that has left them gobsmacked. Comprised of just three episodes, The Diamond Heist is a Netflix original documentary series charting the 2000 heist planned by a group of criminals who set their sights on the Millennium Dome to steal a diamond.

As they plan their escape by boat down the River Thames, the gang are unaware the police are watching their every move. The series features interviews with one of the real criminals, namely Lee Wenham, who followed in his dad's footsteps into a life of crime after leaving school at age 12.

Lee and his co-conspirators Ray Betson and William Cockram were placed under surveillance by police after making repeated visits to the Millennium Dome while the Thames was at high tide. Priceless gems were replaced with replicas, while a false wall was installed for police to hide behind in wait of the heist.

The new Netflix series tells the entire story of the attempted De Beers diamond heist, with interviews from the cops involved in stopping the robbery and reenactments of the fateful day itself. Tuncay Gunes plays a younger Ray Betson, while Luke Philpott portrays Lee in his younger years.

After serving his prison sentence, Lee now runs a landscaping business and seems to have turned his life around. Getaway skipper Kevin Meredith did the same - after his release from prison, he was reportedly working as a decorator and intending to start a fishing trip business on the straight and narrow.

Things didn't turn out as rosy for Ray Betson, who went on to attempt a robbery of a cash depot and was jailed for a further 13 years after the 12 he spent in jail for the heist. His son, Louis, was also arrested for allegedly beating and robbing a cab driver, and sentenced to a stint in a juvenile detention centre.

Robert Adams died while in prison, while Terry Millman died of stomach cancer out on bail while awaiting trial.
