Good Morning Britain viewers slammed Donald Trump after it was confirmed the US president will be visiting the UK. The Republican leader and his wife Melania Trump have officially accepted King Charles's invitation to the UK and the state visit will be from September 17-19. The monarch will host the Trumps at Windsor Castle, as King Charles did during French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit last week. However, Trump's three-day state visit coincides with the parliamentary recession, meaning he will not address UK MPs.

"This is an interesting coincidence that the House won't be sitting so Trump won't be able to address it. I guess it will certainly spare a few blushes here and there," Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley told correspondent Nick Dixon. He agreed, responding: "You could question why the state visit is taking place on those specific dates when parliament is in recess.

"For Donald Trump this will be a huge honour. Is there a chance that this will lead to protests in the UK, just as it did in the previous state visit? Yes, very likely because many will see him as being unwelcome in the UK."

Scottish National Party member Stephen Gethins went as far as branding Trump's state visit as "inappropriate" as he told the programme: "I continue to have real concerns about drawing out the red carpet from Donald Trump."

Gethins put this down to Trump's actions since coming into power for the second time, from his tariffs, pulling away from European partners and his failure to help Ukraine during its war with Russia.

The announcement sparked outrage as fans claimed Trump doesn't deserve another state visit.

Taking to X, one wrote: "Not all leaders address Parliament. Besides, who wants to listen to one of his rambling, derogatory speeches? MPs have dodged a bullet. Trump has sown chaos across the globe ever since he returned to power, governing by whim. He doesn't deserve another state visit."

"It's clear Trump is not welcome in the UK by our MPs," added a second as another bluntly claimed: "The felon isn't welcome."

Others hit out at Keir Starmer and the Labour party, with one writing: "So, Starmers government are running scared by not allowing trump to address parliament.... anyone else not surprised."

Another said: "Maybe he can talk some sense into Starmer about doing something on immigration."

A third echoed: "Totally disrespectful Trump's is not being treated the same as the vile Macron... at least Trump is doing what our government should be doing, deporting the unwanted and listening to what most Americans want."
