By the end of next week, will have closed nine more of its branches. The closures, scheduled between June 2 and June 5, mark the latest phase in the bank's ongoing review of its branch network. The first Halifax branches to close this month will be Felixstowe, Gainsborough, and Kingsbury, all shutting their doors on Monday June 2. Another closures are expected later in June, with additional branches across the country set to shut their doors in the coming weeks.
The decision is part of a broader trend across the banking sector, with more customers opting for online and mobile banking. Halifax, a part of Lloyds Banking Group, has stated that the affected branches have seen a steady decline in footfall in recent years.
The group announced at the start of 2025 that it plans to close a total of 136 branches across its brands by March 2026, including 61 Halifax locations.
A spokesperson for the company, said: "Over 20 million customers are using our apps for on-demand access to their money, and customers have more choice and flexibility than ever for their day-to-day banking.
"Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches.
"Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a Banking Hub."
