Heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne died on Tuesday aged 76, sparking tributes from across the music world. However, the British icon was remembered fondly in motorsport circles, too, and his grid walk interview with Martin Brundle still lives long in the memory.
Osbourne was enjoying the proceedings ahead of the 2003 Canadian Grand Prix when he was spotted by Brundle, who was working alongside James Allen on ITV's F1 coverage at the time. Looking into the camera, Brundle said: "I want to have a word with this guy because he is a complete and utter fruitcake, as we all know, and we love watching him." After wrestling him away from his conversation, the legendary broadcaster started the interview.
"Ozzy, British TV, good to see you," Brundle said. "Good to see you here," the Black Sabbath icon replied. After being quizzed about his wife, Sharon Osbourne's "good news", he then struggled to put together a coherent answer.
Brundle, caught off guard, continued: "Alright, I'll try to think of a question for that answer... did you bring the dogs with you?" Osbourne, with a straight face, replied: "No, they're all at home s****ing."
This ended the interview, with Brundle walking off and adding: "Excellent. Thank you very much. I think we'll move on. Now, what else can I tell you about the race today, because you might be slightly more interested in that."

Years later, Brundle cited his bizarre interview with the Black Sabbath frontman as his all-time favourite celebrity grid walk moment. "He wasn't fully with it, shall we say," the pundit and co-commentator explained. "I asked him a question and he gave me a very long, incomprehensible answer.
"I said to him 'I'll try and think of a question to that, but in the meantime, how are the dogs?' And he said 'they are at home s****ing on the carpets'. It went out live to millions of people, and I got in trouble because I was supposed to have known he would swear if I asked that question."
Osbourne's passion for motorsport extended beyond just F1. In 2017, he was the grand marshal for the NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, giving the iconic "drivers to your cars" command alongside his son, Jack. The race was eventually won by seven-time series champion Jimmie Johnson with the Black Sabbath legend watching on.
