No one likes the sight of black mould, but sadly it happens a lot - especially in the winter.

It can be dangerous to leave as the fungus could begin to spread and cause health issues, as well as damage your home.

Now if you've seen the sight of black mould on your pillow cases, don't be alarmed as one hack could help solve the issue.

Over on , user @cleanupwithjo, who has 126,000 followers, recently revealed how she managed to combat the mould on her dad's pillow.

In a viral clip, she asked: "How often do you wash your pillows?" Before demonstrating the simple method to tackle the situation using soda crystals.

She added: "If your answer is 'never', this video might change your mind. Okay so let's rewind.

"I filled the bath with warm water and added about half a bag of soda crystals, these are really great for lots of things but especially for stripping laundry. And I knew these pillows needed it."

Showing an update of the colour of the pillows, she added: "This is them after an hour and look at the colour of the water.

"Thinking about what must be in your pillows, we're talking about sweat, saliva and all sorts of bodily fluids that can build up overtime."

The user also claimed all kinds of bacteria wind up on a pillow, from dead skin to dust mites, hair and even pollen.

So once you've given it a good soak and squeezed out the remaining water, drain it in the bath and give it a "proper clean".

She explained: "Final step is to pop them in the washing machine, a tip here is to do it in pillow cases as that can help them keep their shape. I didn't this time, but I did throw in the bath mats to provide a bit of cushioning.

"You'll want to do this on a sunny day, especially if you don't have a tumble dryer, so that you can reshape them outside in the sunshine."

Although she didn't get a final shot, her dad did tell her the pillows feel a lot "fluffier" and smell "much better".

The post garnered 2,700 comments with 296,000 likes since it was shared. One said: "I just buy new ones." While another added: "I just throw them away."
