Manchester United icon Ryan Giggs has reportedly stepped down from his director of football position at Salford City as he eyes a comeback to management. The 51-year-old had been working as director of football at the League Two outfit while also assisting head coach Karl Robinson on matchdays.
But according to The Sun, he is no longer part of the daily running at Salford and isn't anticipated to be present for their home clash against Swindon on Saturday. Prior to accepting the position at the club jointly owned by himself, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, and Gary Neville, Giggs took charge of the Wales national team and guided them to Euro 2020 qualification.
Nevertheless, he missed the tournament after stepping aside from his role in November 2020.
Giggs, who was replaced by Robert Page as Wales boss, subsequently called it a 'heartbreaking' experience to miss out on taking the team to the Euros, which had been postponed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I had the stint as Wales manager and loved it," he said back in January.
"Eventually I'd like to get back into management. On matchday I still get as excited as ever, probably more than ever."

Giggs, alongside fellow Class of '92 graduates Nicky Butt, Scholes, and Phil Neville, was bought out by Beckham and Neville, who spearheaded a new consortium to complete a takeover of Salford in May.
The Welshman remained in his role as director of football, before leaving and he will no longer be involved on a day-to-day basis alongside Robinson at the Peninsula Stadium.
His arrival, in March of last year, was not formally announced by Salford but he was first spotted on the club's YouTube channel and has since featured heavily.
Robinson described Giggs' assistance as "outstanding" last year as they pushed for promotion from League Two, before ultimately finishing in eighth place.
They currently sit third in the table before hosting Swindon on Saturday.
