While most of the beaches across the UK are kept clean, some suffer littering issues throughout the busy summer months. It's always a shame to visit a beautiful beach to find rubbish thrown everywhere.
Research from plastic waste specialists at BusinessWaste.co.uk has revealed the most litter-strewn beaches in the UK. Popular areas such as Blackbool, Scarborough, Weston-super-Mare and Bournemouth all feature in the top 10. However, the most littered beach is in a small seaside town in Lincolnshire.
Skegness, which is known for offering a traditional British seaside experience, ranked at the top of the list. The researchers analysed TripAdvisor reviews to determine how often litter was mentioned.
One person wrote in June this year: "Avoid the grass dunes between the car park and the beach. Not only do you have to dodge the dog waste you also have to with human waste and serviettes covered in faeces and left for you to tread in."
A second put: "What has happened to Skeggy? Not been for a couple of years and it's really gone downhill, everything is overgrown with weed and the place is filthy."
Another said: "Unfortunately, on the walk down the beach, we passed a lot of trash, dirty nappies and baby wipes strewn about the place in one area, and broken glass."
However, there is a more positive side to Skegness, including the classic seaside entertainment and family attractions on offer. The bustling promenade is lined with arcades, rides and stalls.
The pier is also a popular spot as it features an indoor entertainment area. Visitors can enjoy bowling and soft play, as well as amusements.
In the town, there are a number of family-friendly attractions. Both Skegness Aquarium and the Natureland Seal Sanctuary are always popular choices for visitors to the area.
One person said on TripAdvisor: "Lots of amusements, donkey rides, crazy golf options, traditional fun fair, busy pier, park, go karts, swimming, excellent fish and chips, seal sanctuary (well worth a visit) and a few good restaurants too.
"Good value, Plenty of parking and the kids love it. It's modernised too with some good investment. I'm not sure why it gets such a bad rep from some people."
