There is a beautiful city just over four hours from the UK that many tourists don't know about. However, one expert has explained why this city, which has flown "under the radar", should be on your travel bucket list for 2025 and beyond. Many a British tourist has visited the country of with many of them opting for popular destinations such as and Cappadocia. But there is another Turkish city that you might want to consider visiting.
Selda Bayhan, a senior SunExpress cabin crew member based at , has named the Turkish cities that she thinks have flown too much under the radar, with one of her choices being Kayseri, which is located in central Turkey. This city is home to close to 1.5 million residents, a relatively large population for a place that many of us may not have heard of. According to Selda, Kayseri is "a stunning city at the foot of a volcano, and the easiest way into Cappadocia's fairy chimneys and cave hotels."

"A place that really deserves more attention is Kayseri," she explains. "It's often skipped in favour of nearby , but actually offers a lot of the same incredible experiences - just with fewer crowds.
"From Kayseri, you can still do all the big highlights: hot air balloon rides at sunrise, the unique rock formations and cave churches, and the famous underground cities.
"The Göreme Open-Air Museum, a World Heritage Site, is full of ancient rock-cut churches with stunning frescoes."
Bayhan also recommends visiting the Red Valley and Rose Valley which she says are "perfect" for peaceful and amazing views.
"You can also explore underground cities like Derinkuyu and Kaymakli, which were once used as hideouts thousands of years ago," she adds. "After a day of exploring, staying in a cave hotel is a real highlight - the atmosphere is so unique, but still really comfortable."
Bayhan also reveals that the food is a reason to go to Kayseri. She says: "Dishes like manti (Turkish dumplings), pastirma, and the local desserts are unforgettable. And if you've never been to a traditional Turkish bath, this is the perfect place to try it."
Getting to Kayseri from the UK is relatively accessibe. Flights to Kayseri Erkilet Airport are available from London and are operated by Pegasus Airlines, Ajet and SunExpress, among others.
