This traditional festival, celebrated on Sunday, involves fasting and prayer for the well-being and longevity of spouses. This year’s expected spending exceeds last year’s Rs 15,000 crore, reflecting a surge in enthusiasm and consumer activity. Markets around the country have had a lively atmosphere in the run-up to the festival, with throngs rushing to buy clothing, jewelry, cosmetics, gift goods, and puja supplies. According to the ANI report, Delhi, a hub for celebrations, is expected to contribute significantly to the economic growth, with sales reaching approximately Rs 4,000 crore. The festive buying includes jewellry, traditional dress, makeup, and religious things like Karva pots, sieves, lamps, wicks, and prayer books. Popular purchases include red glass bangles, anklets, toe rings, lockets, and intricately sculpted Karva thalis. Notably, silver Karvas have been brought to the market and are predicted to be in high demand. The report added that the festival also highlights the popularity of henna (mehendi), considered auspicious for the occasion. Markets, temples, and public spaces are bustling with women eager to adorn their hands. Connaught Place’s Hanuman Temple in Delhi has emerged as a major spot for mehendi, while beauty parlors and private sessions are fully booked, providing henna artists with valuable earning opportunities. As the wedding season approaches in November, Karva Chauth serves as an early catalyst for bridal jewelry bookings, further boosting economic activity.
