The MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image) Mumbai Film Festival 2024 has begun, with October 18 marking the first day. Veteran actor Waheeda Rehman graced the event, and when asked about Shabana Azmi, who has completed 50 years in the industry, Waheeda praised her performance in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Festival director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur stated, "The festival is opening with Payal Kapadia’s film, All We Imagine As Light (AWIAL), which is the Grand Prix winner of 2024, a first for India. It is very important because that’s the film we should be celebrating. It’s the biggest win India has had in any year, anywhere. We were keen that an Indian film should lead the opening.
