Rainfall breaks sultry spell, many areas in Sangam City waterlogged

Prayagraj: The denizens of the Sangam city got a sigh of relief from the sultry weather, prevailing for the past many days, when a heavy downpour drenched the city for about half an hour on Sunday evening. However, the rainfall also threw life out of gear and streets, apart from waterlogging, witnessed jam-like situations.

Heavy rainfall was recorded at Civil Lines, Ashok Nagar, Thornhill Road, Rajapur, Katra, Hindu Hostel Crossing and adjoining areas. Because of the heavy downpour, commuters and families who arrived to enjoy Sunday evening at Civil Lines, CSA Park, and other open eatery joints ran helter-skelter to find safe cover.

Lukerganj resident Rajul Bhargava said, "It was an unpredictable brief spell of heavy rains that threw the traffic out of gear, and commuters had to drive their vehicles safely.The rainfall also caused waterlogging at prominent city crossings and intersections for some time."

However, citizens, particularly youngsters, welcomed the heavy rain and came out on the streets to enjoy it. Areas like Khuldabad, Nakaskhona, Station Road, Leader Road, George Town, Tagore Town, Kydgunj, Dariyabad, Meerapur, Johnstonganj, Muttigunj, Allahapur, and adjoining areas witnessed waterlogging for some time. "This is perhaps the heaviest downpour that the city received in this pre-monsoon season on Sunday evening, as the road leading to our colony became inaccessible for half an hour," said Nikhil Malang, a resident of Tagore Town.

The road going underneath the Niranjan railway bridge was also waterlogged for a brief spell of time, thereby creating problems for the movement of both vehicles and commuters.
