Chennai: Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested an office assistant with the state forensic sciences department in Villupuram on charges of cheating several people of 75 lakh by promising them govt jobs. The accused, G Selvaraj (47), of Thiruneermalai, was arrested based on a complaint from Viji of Arakkonam, who runs a distance education coaching centre. Selvaraj acquainted himself with Viji and told her he had good clout with state govt officials and could get jobs for her students in the HR&CE and registration departments, TNPSC, and railways. Believing him, Viji convinced about 26 of her students to pay a total of 75 lakh to him. However, Selvaraj did not get the jobs as promised, after which Viji approached police. The accused was picked up on Wednesday from a hideout and remanded in judicial custody. Police have called upon the victims conned by him to come forward and lodge plaints. TNN
