Khargone: A man was arrested for allegedly killing a 35-year-old man in Lonara under Oon police station area of Khargone district.

Oon police station in-charge Ganpat Kanel told TOI that Bhim Singh was arrested late on Wednesday for allegedly thrashing Kamal Mankar, 35, to death with sticks. The accused was produced before the court on Thursday, which sent him to judicial custody.

Kamal was found lying in an injured state on Wednesday morning. His nephew Santosh brought him home, where he died after some time. However, he revealed the name of the accused before his death. There were marks on his entire body, including head, showing that he was beaten by sticks, Kanel said.

Upon receiving information, the police took Bhim Singh into custody and interrogated him. Bhim Singh told the police that Kamal used to abuse him every evening after consuming alcohol. Angered by this, he beat him with sticks and left him in an unconscious state.

A police officer said that Kamal used to live in another place but due to his habit of consuming alcohol and fighting, the villagers forced him to leave. Kamal then built a hut at another location and lived with his mother, he added.

The police officer said, "Kamal kept thinking that he could not build his house due to the villagers forcing him away; therefore, he used to abuse people after consuming alcohol."

The officer said that from Sept 2024 to now, eight murders have taken place in the police station area over small matters.
