Tamil Nadu govt declares public holiday on November 1

Send Push
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu govt has declared a holiday for govt offices, state public sector undertakings, schools, and colleges on 1 November, the day after Deepavali.

This decision aims to benefit students, parents, teachers, and govt staff travelling to their native places for the festival and returning home. To compensate for this holiday, 9 November will be a working day.

An official release from the govt stated, "The govt has declared 9 November as a working day to make up for the holiday."

JACTTO-GEO, the supreme body of govt and teachers’ associations, earlier sent a representation to the chief minister, requesting the holiday on 1 November. They argued that most teachers and govt officials would face difficulties returning to work on Friday after celebrating the festival in their native places.

The govt announcement ensures that its offices and institutions, which already have holidays on Saturday and Sunday, will get an extended holiday.
