Guwahati: Mystery shrouded the early Sunday morning discovery of a 25-year-old man lying unconscious near a govt school at Chaygaon in Kamrup district.
Police from the Jorshimuli outpost recovered the man, identified as Sofiur Rehman, son of Sahajahan Ali. He was a native of Puran gaon in Chamaria. The locals found him outside Purankuchiya LP school in Jorshimuli. However, he died on his way to a nearby hospital, police said.
Jorshimuli outpost IC Nani Gopal Sarkar said one of Rehman’s maternal cousins informed them about the incident around 1.40 am. When the locals found Rehman, there was excessive foam and some blood in his mouth and he appeared to be choking. Rehman passed away on his way to the Sontoli Community Health Centre.
“We suspect that it might be a drug overdose, but we cannot confirm anything until the post mortem report is available,” the officer added.
The officer also said during preliminary investigation, no external injury marks were found on the body. However, the deceased’s parents suspect foul play and will file a complaint.
