Kochi: Kochi corporation is planning to set up reading boxes in various parts of the city. The first box was set up at Koyithara Park in Panampilly Nagar on Monday.
Visitors can now enjoy reading books in the park's serene atmosphere. Anyone can visit during park hours, pick a book, read and discuss the books, corporation officials said. The only requirement is to return the book to the reading box before leaving. If someone wishes to take a book home, they can do so by leaving another book in its place.
This initiative aims to promote reading in public spaces, parks and hospitals in Kochi, and to facilitate discussions about books and interactions with authors through reading clubs.
Implemented by the corporation and the NGO Kites India, the project aims to mark a new era of reading and attract younger generation to reading.
Mayor M Anilkumar said books play a significant role in shaping personalities. He underlined the necessity of having a generation that reads and discusses various issues related to society.
