Kochi: A 22-year-old man drowned while taking bath in a temple pond in Eloor on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Adarsh, son of Sumesh, a native of Aluva. The incident occurred at Naranathu Temple pond, where Adarsh arrived to assist with light and sound arrangements for a temple event.
According to Eloor police, Adarsh entered the pond to bathe and is believed to have slipped and fallen into a deep section of the pond.
Officials from Eloor fire and rescue department recovered the body. The team reported that the pond has a concrete floor extending about 10 feet from the shore, after which a deep pit begins. It is suspected that Adarsh lost his footing and fell into this pit. Fire and rescue team member Stephen MV was the diver who located and recovered the body.
Rescue operation was led by station officer VS Ranjith Kumar, supported by team members Rasheed AA, Manoj Kumar S, Ragesh, Shanavas N, Vipin S, Altaf H, Jayaprakash MK and Venu AR.
The body, which is currently kept at Govt Medical College Hospital, Ernakulam, will be released to his relatives on Thursday after completing inquest procedures.
