Mysuru: KPCC working president and former minister Tanveer Sait on Thursday said he asked the party to field a Muslim candidate for the bypoll of Shiggaon assembly constituency in Haveri district.
Speaking to reporters, he stated that fielding a Muslim candidate from Shiggaon is natural. He also defended the govt's decision to withdraw cases filed against individuals in the Hubballi riot cases.
Sait said that former MP DK Suresh must remain active in politics. "He is being considered for the bypoll to the Channapatna segment," he stated. "The party will announce the candidate in four to five days," he stated.
The divisions within the NDA partners of BJP and JD(S) will help Congress to wrest the segment, he claimed. Leaders of the two parties are fighting for the ticket, he pointed out.
