Today marks the celebration of Buddha Purnima—a day that marks the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Gautama Buddha. Television actor Rishi Grover opens up about how his understanding of Buddhism has deeply influenced his personal and spiritual journey.

Known for his roles in shows like Parineeti and Ishq Unplugged, Rishi shares that his real connection with Buddhism blossomed during his recent travels. He shares, "I was aware about Buddhism, but I understood and explored the beauty while I was in Thailand months back." Immersed in the culture and spirituality of the region, Rishi found himself inspired by the peaceful and profound principles of the Buddha’s teachings.

The actor emphasizes one particular precept that struck a chord with him — the principle of non-violence. “The significance of Buddhism that influenced me was not killing. This precept involves abstaining from harming or killing any living being, including humans and animals,” he explains, highlighting the relevance of compassion in everyday life.

Reflecting on the life of Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual leader who became the Buddha, Rishi adds, “The name Buddha is a Sanskrit term that itself signifies awakened or enlightened. He is truly inspiring for mankind.” Rishi, an avid reader, delved into various books about the life of Buddha. “He gave up his life as a king and adopted a nomadic, ascetic lifestyle. He became enlightened at Bodh Gaya, in what is now India, after living a life of begging, penance, and meditation.”

It’s not just philosophy for Rishi; he incorporates Buddhist practice into his life back home. “Here in Mumbai, I keep visiting the Global Vipassana Pagoda. It always helps me to stay motivated, find peace and generate positive energy in me. When your faith becomes stronger than your fears, then your dreams can become a reality.”
