Kartik Month is one of the most auspicious and sacred month of the year, which is dedicated to worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna. This month is popularly known as Damodara Month. This is the month of spiritual enlightenment and purification as we are moving from Uttarayan to Dakshinayana. This is the period of receiving the rewards of your Karma which you have done during this month. Bhishma Pitamah also left his body during the month of Kartik, honoring to Lord Vishnu.

This month is considered the most pious month to perform various religious and spiritual activities. Waking up during Brahma Muhurat, performing meditation, lighting diyas, offering prayers to Lord Vishnu, reciting prayers and hymns dedicated to Lord Krishna, chanting mantras, visiting temple and reciting Kartik Maas Katha everyday.

This is the time for the purification of your body, mind and soul, spiritual enlightenment, self awareness, and ultimately devotees get liberation from the cycle of birth and death if they perform puja to Lord Vishnu with utmost faith and devotion.

As we all know that Kartik Maas is the fourth and the last month of Chaturmaas, and after that Shri Hari will wake up after a long period of four months and bless the devotees again with his presence. Devotees are advised to perform puja during Rohini Nakshatra during this month as all the special pujas dedicated to Lord Krishna are performed during this particular Nakshatra.

Why lighting diya is important during the month of Kartik?

Lighting diya means removing the darkness and negativity from your mind and soul. Darkness here refers to ignorance from the reality. The ultimate truth is the supreme power and if we start lighting diya in front of the idol of Lord Vishnu then the supreme power helps us to get rid of the inner demons such as ego, greed, lust and attachments with materialistic world and purify the soul with the truth and removes all the sins which we might have done in the past.
