NEW DELHI: As the deadline for filing nominations for the Maharashtra Assembly elections approaches, political parties are scrambling to finalize their candidates.
In line with the October 29 nomination deadline announced by the Election Commission, the BJP, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress released their second list of candidates on Saturday.
The Maharashtra Assembly, which consists of 288 members, will go to polls on November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
BJP: Second list of 22 candidates
The Bharatiya Janata Party's second list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections includes 22 names, with the party retaining six incumbent MLAs while replacing two others. As a member of the ruling Mahayuti coalition, alongside the Shiv Sena and NCP, the BJP has now announced candidates for a total of 121 seats.
In the latest list, the party chose to replace its sitting MLAs in the Washim and Gadchiroli constituencies. However, it retained the MLAs representing Akot, Nashik Central, Pen, Khadakwasala, Pune Cantonment, and Ulhasnagar. The list also includes two members of the Legislative Council, with Gopichand Padalkar contesting from Jat and Ramesh Karad from Latur Rural, where he will face Congress' Dhiraj Deshmukh.
NCP(SCP): Second list of 22 candidatesMaharashtra State President of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), Jayant Patil, held a press conference in Mumbai to reveal the second list of 22 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, scheduled for November 20.
During the press conference, Patil stated, "So far, I have announced the names of 67 candidates, and we will win in all the constituencies."
The latest list follows the party's initial list of 45 candidates released on October 24. Within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), Congress, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), a seat-sharing agreement has been confirmed. Each party will contest 85 of the 255 designated constituencies, with the remaining 23 seats allocated based on additional candidate lists.

The list includes Rajesh Tukaram Manvatkar contesting from Bhusawal-SC, Swati Sandip Wakekar from Jalgaon (Jamod), Mahesh Gangane from Akot, Shekhar Pramodbabu Shende from Wardha, Anuja Sunil Kedar from Savner, Girish Krushnarao Pandav from Nagpur South, Suresh Yadavrao Bhoyar from Kamthi, Puja Ganesh Thavkar from Bhandara-SC, and Dalip Waman Bansod from Arjuni-Morgaon-SC constituency.
Congress had previously announced 48 candidates in its initial list, bringing the total to 71 with this new set. The first list included 25 incumbent MLAs who have been retained as nominees.
