NEW DELHI: Union aviation minister Rammohan Naidu Thursday inaugurated Airbus ' new India and South Asia headquarters located at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport , in the presence of Michael Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, and Rémi Maillard, president and MD of Airbus in India and South Asia.
The facility will serve as the epicentre for Airbus’ operations in India, housing all three business units – commercial aircraft, helicopters and defence & space – bringing Airbus closer to its customers in India and in the South Asia region. Airbus says the "new HQ symbolise its ambition in India and its commitment to developing the country’s aerospace and defence sectors."
The new HQ will be the heart of Airbus’ industrial mission in India, which is to develop a comprehensive aerospace ecosystem across all dimensions: assembly, manufacturing, design, innovation and training. It will also serve as a pilot and maintenance training centre that will accommodate four A320neo Full Flight Simulators (FFS).
“The inauguration of the new headquarters of Airbus in India and South Asia is another milestone in Airbus’ ambitious vision for India. It represents our unwavering commitment to developing the full spectrum of the country’s aerospace ecosystem. Airbus has seen a three-fold growth in its full-time employee count in India in the last three years and we will continue to grow. We are on course to open a 5,000-seater Airbus Campus in Bengaluru next year,” said Rémi Maillard.
With hundreds of planes on order from IndiGo and Air India Group, India is a key market for the European aerospace major. Airbus procures more than 1 billion euros every year from a robust and comprehensive supply chain in India for components and services, generating more than 15,000 jobs. Additionally, Airbus India’s own engineering and digital centres in Bengaluru contribute to all the commercial and helicopter programmes of Airbus globally. Airbus is also building two final assembly lines in India for the C295 military transporter and the H125 helicopters.
