US President Donald Trump ignited a fresh controversy over the weekend by threatening to revoke actress Rosie O’Donnell’s American citizenship.
In a post shared Saturday on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship. She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
The statement has sparked a wave of criticism in Trump’s ongoing feud with O’Donnell, who wasted no time firing back with a TikTok post that read, “The POTUS, ladies and gentlemen, is a disgrace to all our beautiful country stands for – he is a danger to the nation – a mentally ill, untreated criminal who lied to America for a decade on The Apprentice."
Taking further aim at his leadership and character, O’Donnell added, “Add me to the list of people who oppose him at every turn – it’s now or never, America.” She also criticized his immigration policies, ending her video with a sharp remark, “Go arrest a few brown people, you truly evil man-child.”
O’Donnell, who was born and raised in New York, recently relocated to Ireland with her family, including her youngest daughter and their autism service dog. She has said the move was driven by a desire for a safer, more equitable life. The actress has also begun the process of acquiring Irish citizenship through her grandparents.
Trump’s comments come amid ongoing legal efforts to challenge his previous attempts to end the constitutional right of birthright citizenship. A federal judge recently blocked his latest push to do so via executive order.
