New Delhi In a significant move to enhance digital security and taxpayer convenience, the Income Tax Department of India has introduced PAN 2.0, a next-generation Permanent Account Number (PAN) system. The PAN 2.0 initiative includes a QR code-based e-PAN card, which is sent free of cost to registered email addresses and offers improved data integrity, fraud protection, and seamless digital verification.
What Is PAN 2.0 and Why It Matters? The PAN 2.0 system is designed to modernize the way PAN cards are issued and verified. With embedded QR codes, e-PAN cards can now store key encrypted information such as the cardholder’s name, date of birth, photograph, and PAN number — making it easier and more secure to authenticate the identity of taxpayers.
While the digital e-PAN is offered for free up to three times, physical PAN cards can still be ordered for a nominal fee of ₹50 within India and ₹959 for international delivery.
