May 6, 2025 — As anticipation builds for Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event expected in early July, new details have surfaced about the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7. The next-generation foldables have received UL Demko certification in Denmark, revealing key specifications related to their battery capacities — and it’s a case of incremental updates rather than sweeping changes.
Galaxy Z Fold7 to Retain Previous Battery CapacityAccording to the certification documents, the Galaxy Z Fold7 will be powered by two battery cells with rated capacities of 2,126 mAh and 2,146 mAh, for a combined total of 4,272 mAh. Based on Samsung’s typical marketing practice, this is expected to be promoted as a 4,400 mAh typical capacity — identical to that of the Galaxy Z Fold6.
This will mark the third consecutive generation where Samsung has kept the same battery capacity for its flagship foldable. Notably, the Fold3 (2021), Fold4 (2022), and Fold6 (2024) all featured the same 4,400 mAh battery, while the Fold2 (2020) had a slightly larger 4,500 mAh unit.
Despite continued advancements in display efficiency and power management, some users may be disappointed by the lack of battery growth, especially as foldable devices remain power-hungry due to their dual-screen form factor.
Galaxy Z Flip7 Gets a Modest Battery BoostThe Galaxy Z Flip7, on the other hand, sees a slight bump in battery capacity. The UL Demko certification lists two batteries: one rated at 1,189 mAh and the other at 2,985 mAh, bringing the total to 4,174 mAh. Samsung is likely to market this as a 4,300 mAh typical capacity, a 300 mAh increase over the Flip6’s 4,000 mAh battery.
While not a major jump, the increase should result in slightly better battery life, especially considering improvements in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset and potential software optimizations. Battery life has long been a point of contention in flip-style foldables due to space constraints, so any increase is generally welcomed by users.
No Change in Charging SpeedIn addition to battery specs, the certification confirms that both the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 will continue to support 25W wired charging, with no upgrades to charging speed. This marks yet another year where Samsung resists moving beyond the 25W limit, first seen on the Z Fold2 (2020) and Z Flip4 (2022).
While Samsung’s premium Galaxy S line has adopted faster charging capabilities — with models like the Galaxy S24 Ultra offering 45W wired charging — the foldables remain conservative in power delivery, possibly due to thermal and design constraints.
This decision may draw criticism, especially as competing foldable smartphones from brands like OnePlus and Honor now offer significantly faster charging technologies, ranging from 66W to over 100W.
What’s Next for Samsung’s Foldable Line? The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 are expected to launch with refined designs, lighter builds, thinner bezels, and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipsets. Both devices are also rumored to offer upgraded hinge mechanisms and improved durability, along with continued support for One UI foldable-specific features.
As Samsung gears up for a competitive foldable market in 2025, these battery and charging specifications suggest a focus on refinement rather than revolution. Whether that will be enough to maintain its leadership in the foldables segment remains to be seen.
